Harsh Comparison
"You're just as crazy in your head as your mom." Our marriage was already falling apart when I threw this line at my then-wife during an argument. Looking back, it was probably the final nail in the coffin. What I said had some truth, but it was cruel to say it to her face.
Height
"I can still lose weight, but you'll always be a dwarf!" I said this to my ex when she pointed out I had gained a few pounds during a fight. I regret it because early on, she confided in me about her insecurities over her height (173 cm / 5'8") and I only made it worse.
Better
"Your little brother is a better guy than you; I should have been with him!" If I could turn back time, this is the sentence I would never say.

Body Shape
"No wonder I'm not romantic, just look in the mirror—how much weight you've gained since we’ve been together!" Honestly, I still found her attractive; I said this out of anger and to hurt her. It was disgusting, and I deeply regret it. I never really made it right.
Do It
She threatened suicide several times and even tried a few times. Whenever she took pills, she always called the ambulance herself. After one of these attempts and a terrible fight, she said again she would kill herself because of me. I told her, "Okay, but don’t call the ambulance this time." I’ll never forget her face—she stared silently, and I saw something inside her break.
Never
I told her I couldn’t imagine my future with her and that I wouldn’t marry her. Back then, I thought I was being honest; now I know I should have been gentler. She didn’t deserve such a harsh statement.

The Shock
We had a passionate but equally toxic relationship. We fought constantly; she called me every kind of pathetic loser, then we’d make up with intense makeup sex. Eventually, I got tired and wanted to break up. She threw her usual insults and tried to seduce me. I pushed her off several times, but she kept teasing, "Come on, why won’t you...?" Then I blurted out, "Because you’re ugly and I’m disgusted by you!" She immediately went silent, collapsed on the bed, and started crying. From that moment, I promised myself I’d never call anyone ugly again.
Small
"I don’t care, your equipment is small anyway!" I said this to my ex when she broke up with me. It was childish and mean—I shouldn’t have said it.
Not You
My fiancé asked who kissed me best in my life, and without hesitation, I said Peti. My fiancé wasn’t Peti. He jumped out of bed, threw on his clothes, and stormed out. I followed him, wearing nothing. I begged for forgiveness all the way downstairs, knowing I had hurt him deeply. A year later, we got married, but two years after that, he filed for divorce when I still believed we could fix things.
You’re to Blame
"Your parents divorced because of you!" Just thinking about this sentence makes me cringe. Looking back, I was only projecting my own frustration because she was beautiful, and I’m no Brad Pitt—I just wanted to hurt her.
