We’ve all heard stories like this. For me, the most striking are those linked to the September 11, 2001 attacks. Many interviews and reports were made then and years later, but the most shocking were the accounts of people explaining why they weren’t inside the buildings on time. Some were delayed by their kids, others by a late train, and some just had a bad feeling and didn’t go in that day.

Listening to these stories made me think: how free is free will? How much control do we really have over being late because of our kids, a delayed train, or simply following our intuition? These are deep questions that shape our lives. Still, many were lucky that day to be just 10 minutes away from tragedy.

You might be wondering how to know your perfect timing. The truth is, it’s more complex—and honestly, it doesn’t really matter. The "what if" mindset can be harmful because everyone shapes their life based on their best knowledge at the moment. So there’s no point in second-guessing what would have happened if you’d arrived 10 minutes earlier or later.

Only the present counts, and accepting that there’s no right or wrong choice—just choices. Sure, a few minutes can take you down a different path, but the destination will align. Meanwhile, enjoy the twists and turns of your journey and the power you have to shape it. Or do you?
