New Hobbies
He used to unwind only with video games, then suddenly he started showing interest in all sorts of things. He went bowling with coworkers, went hiking with his cousin, got a guitar and started practicing with a band, and then—what really caught my attention—he signed up for a book club. When he told me about the book club, I honestly wondered if he thought I was that clueless?! Him and a book club, oh my…
Exhaustion
We’d been together for five years, and the first time he said he was too tired for sex, I knew right away he was cheating. This guy would still come onto me even when he was so sick he could barely move. After running a half marathon, after waking up at dawn to hike all day and coming home muddy at night—he still wanted me. But on a perfectly normal afternoon, he said he didn’t want to have sex because he was tired. I knew then it was over.

Playing Sports
Out of nowhere, he got interested in basketball. His friends played, but he never joined—then suddenly he decided to play twice a week with them. I found it odd but was happy he was spending time with friends and being active. When I noticed his shirt never got sweaty after these sessions, I told him next time I’d join to see how they play.
He clearly didn’t like the idea but agreed. He was terrible on the court, clearly playing with the team for the first time, and his friends seemed tense. That’s when I was sure he was seeing someone else instead of playing basketball—and I was right.
Sudden Work Hustle
My boyfriend, who was so lazy he never lifted a finger, suddenly took on a bunch of overtime, claiming it was for “our future.” Now I just laugh at that pathetic lie. Did he really think I’d believe that the world’s biggest slacker turned into a work hero overnight?!

The Devil’s in the Details
I noticed he started sharing way more details. Before, if he had plans, he’d just mumble something. (Most guys are like that—they don’t go into long stories.) Then he went to the movies and told me a specific detail about the film.
When he met his friends, he’d tell me how each one was doing and what happened with them. He never used to do that, and that raised a red flag. The funny thing is, if he’d stuck to his usual quiet grumbles, I might have never realized he had someone else.
Messaging
My ex was the kind of guy who hated texting and messaging. So much so that when he flew to the US, I had to call him on the third day just to check if he was still alive—he hadn’t replied to a single message.
Then suddenly he started sending me messages when he wasn’t home in the afternoon or evening. He’d say he was watching a game with friends at the bar or had to stay late at work. I immediately sensed something was off because he never bothered to update me about where he was before. I was sure he messaged just to keep me from calling—and I was right. What a fool…
