I saw in the bank lobby a lady’s child spill about half a bottle of soda on the floor. The lobby was beautiful, so the least she could do was alert security since she wouldn’t clean it herself—but she did nothing. Worse, she gave me a sassy look when she noticed I saw the whole thing. When her number was called, she hurried toward the clerk and promptly slipped on the orange juice puddle. When she tried to make a fuss, I calmly told security the kid spilled it and if she wanted proof, they could check the cameras.

I usually run in the park every morning and have a friendly rivalry with an athletic girl. I usually win, but one morning she overtook me on the grass and shouted, “You’re jelly, kid!” Right then, she stepped into a hole and twisted her ankle. I helped her home, grinning as she groaned in pain (I know, not my finest moment, but it felt oddly satisfying).

The mom snapped at her rudely, telling her not to interfere with her parenting. Then, when she picked up the baby, the kid spat the gum into her hair without her noticing and put on her hat as if nothing happened. Everyone saw it, but no one said a word.

I tried explaining to a huge family of five at the lake that only two people fit in the boat, so they’d need to rent two. They got upset, accusing me of calling them fat (I didn’t). I shrugged and they got in. Barely had they left the shore when the small boat started sinking under them. The whole beach laughed as they struggled, soaked, to get out of the water.

The kid was grabbing every vegetable in the store, and the mom didn’t say a word. I didn’t intervene either when the child started tearing apart a hot pepper. Minutes later, I heard a blood-curdling scream—guess they rubbed their eyes.

A man grumbled about me being slow at the checkout. I didn’t tell him I was covering a sick coworker and this was my second shift, and I was exhausted. But I did notice him tossing items into his bag so hard the shampoo cap popped open and spilled all over his groceries. I smiled, knowing by the time he got home, everything would be soaked.

While cleaning a hotel lobby bathroom, I noticed a cracked tile. I put up a “wet floor” sign to keep people away and went to get my supervisor. Suddenly, a large woman barged in, knocking me aside, kicked the sign away, and slammed the door. Moments later, I heard a loud crack and the woman ran out screaming, soaked and half-naked from the waist down.
