Rám Gorge
Let’s dive right in! Don’t worry, we’ll suggest easier trails too, but if you’re not afraid of a bit of climbing, have hiking boots, and some experience on the trails, we highly recommend Rám Gorge!
Starting from Dömös, this trail isn’t exactly easy, but after a gentle initial climb, it really gets your heart pumping.
In return, you’ll find a well-built path equipped with railings and ladders, plus breathtaking views, perfect silence, and wild, untouched nature. Expect about a three-hour hike—if you’re up for more than a casual stroll, you’ll love Rám Gorge.
Zebegény
The easiest way to reach Zebegény is by train from Nyugati station, and the town itself is a perfect spot for a weekend getaway.
If you’re not craving mountain climbing, Zebegény still offers a charming small-town vibe: a gentle stream, quaint bridges, winding streets, and a cozy pastry shop near the train station — not to mention the forest trails!
If you like, you can even hike over to Nagymaros and take the train back to Budapest from there.
Diósjenő
Just 60 km from Budapest, at the foot of the Börzsöny Mountains, Diósjenő is a favorite for many travelers. Alongside the charming small town, the hiking trails promise rich wildlife and fresh air — perfect reasons to visit.
Don’t miss a stop at the Diósjenő lake if you want to feel a breeze of history: historians say that the philosopher-emperor Marcus Aurelius’s troops fought here against barbarians threatening Pannonia, delivering a decisive blow.
Tabajd
Tabajd lies toward Etyek, roughly in line with Felcsút, and for a long time it quietly hid among nearby tourist spots. But in 2008, a barefoot park was created here — the perfect choice if you want to hike and connect with nature in a fun, unusual way.
Along the stream, the trees offer cool shade, and you can walk barefoot over different surfaces — sometimes rough basalt tickling your feet, other times soft, springy gravel.
This barefoot experience massages your foot muscles and benefits your whole body — but honestly, it’s just a super fun way to embrace a unique sensation with childlike joy.
Zsámbék
Zsámbék in Pest County is known not only for its annual theater events. Its 750-year-old, majestic church ruins are stunning — you’ll hardly believe you’re just an hour from Budapest.
A nature reserve awaits at Nyakas Hill, where peace and quiet reign.
