Bridgerton never fails to surprise us with new twists: stunning costumes, juicy intrigues, and heart-tugging romance keep the story fresh and exciting.

After the first half of Season 4, many fans are eager to find out which Bridgerton sibling’s story will take the spotlight next. A fresh fan theory suggests that not only the current romantic threads but an unexpected tragedy might reveal who leads Season 5.

Heads up: This article contains spoilers for the second half of Bridgerton Season 4, future seasons, and the book series the show is based on!

A Death That Could Change Everything

Netflix recently released the trailer for the second part of Bridgerton Season 4, and eagle-eyed fans noticed several characters dressed in mourning clothes. This hints at the Bridgerton family attending a funeral. The contrast is especially striking with Lady Violet Bridgerton, known for her bright and lively wardrobe. The big question: who has passed away?

Fans Are Betting on Two Main Candidates

The first is John Stirling, Francesca Bridgerton’s husband, based on events from the original book series. John’s death opens the door for Francesca to explore a new romance—with John’s cousin Michaela (called Michael in the books). If the show follows this storyline, Season 5 could focus on Francesca and Michaela’s relationship.

The second candidate is Marina Thompson, best known from Season 1, who plays a key role in Eloise’s story. According to the books, after Marina’s death, Eloise develops an interest in Sir Phillip Crane. However, some fans think the Bridgertons might not attend Marina’s funeral, making John Stirling’s death the more likely event to happen first in the show.

What Happened in Season 4’s First Half?

The first half of Season 4 was packed with surprises. Here are the key moments:

  • Benedict and Sophie’s story: Benedict finally opens up to Sophie—but not with a typical love confession. Instead, he asks her to be his mistress. Sophie’s reaction? She walks away silently and sticks to her original plan to join her friends who were heading out.
  • Secret identities: Benedict still hasn’t realized Sophie is the mysterious Lady in Silver, even though clues have popped up more than once.
  • Lady Violet and Marcus: Passion finally sparks between Lady Violet Bridgerton and Lord Marcus Anderson, adding new energy to family dynamics.
  • Francesca and John: Their romance starts to blossom, especially when John’s cousin Michaela appears, hinting at future love complications.
  • Alice Mondrich and Lady Danbury: Alice’s role at court grows as Lady Danbury gradually steps back, opening doors for younger ladies.
  • Lady Araminta’s move: Lady Araminta and her daughters moving next to the Bridgertons stirs unexpected tensions, especially for Sophie.

What to Expect in Season 5?

If the currently popular fan theory holds true, Season 5 will center on Francesca and Michaela’s relationship, wrapped in a bittersweet but romantic mood. The creators are building the new season’s story around this death, promising fresh challenges and emotional highs for viewers.

That said, many also expect Eloise and Sir Phillip Crane’s story to take the spotlight in Season 5.

One thing’s for sure: the Bridgerton family saga will continue to deliver intrigue, elegance, and those heart-fluttering moments that have fans worldwide counting down to the February 26 return.
