Share Positive Stories
Every day brings some bad news, and sensational media often bombards us with negativity. But for every tough story, there’s a heartwarming one too. So when your friends see a kind story you’ve shared after a heated political debate online, you’ve already brightened their day.
Plant Something Green
Plants can bring joy, just like pets. I live in a building with no balcony, but I have flower boxes on the railing where I nurture plants. Watching them grow and bloom fills me with satisfaction. If you don’t have a garden, join community projects and plant trees—it’s a rewarding way to connect with nature.

Help an Animal
Pets bring so much joy, but not everyone can have one. If your landlord says no, you travel a lot, or worry about costs like vet bills, you can still help. There’s always a need for temporary foster homes or dog walkers at shelters, and you can even organize food drives among your friends.
Take Action for Your Community
Annoyed by accidents on your street, impossible parking, or a rundown building nearby? Do something about it. Gather signatures, write to your local government, request meetings, or call to speak up. Change starts with one person who decides to act, and community power is real.
Pick Up Litter
Many communities come together to clean up littered areas. Join in—you’ll help the environment and feel great doing it.

Live More Sustainably
Thankfully, sustainability is gaining ground. Every small step counts. Buy from local producers, use natural cleaners like vinegar and baking soda, and avoid pouring chemicals down the drain. Choose products that are fair trade and cruelty-free—these choices make a real difference.
Volunteer
Beyond planting, walking dogs, or cleaning up, you can volunteer in many ways. Check out opportunities at places like the Maltese Charity Service or UNICEF, or help at nursing homes, kindergartens, or homeless shelters. Pick something that speaks to your heart.
Donate Blood
If you can, donate blood. It’s needed now more than ever.

Donate Used Items and Clothes
Do a big cleanout at home and be honest with your stuff. That coat you haven’t worn in years could be a huge gift to someone else, and worn but working kitchen appliances can find a new home too.
Be Empathetic
Be the person who stays calm when someone cuts in line. Let the bold driver merge, and don’t immediately ask for a complaint book if service isn’t perfect. Everyone has their struggles: maybe the line-cutter is feeling unwell, the driver is rushing for reasons beyond their control, and the waiter is overwhelmed. Instead of arguing, take a deep breath and practice patience and understanding. Life will reward you for it.
