9 Beauty Essentials Always in My Beach Bag — Style

Sun damage, discoloration, split ends—summer can throw anything at you. Luckily, you can avoid all that by using the right beauty products, especially those with sun protection. After years of testing and experimenting at the beach, I’m convinced I’ve found the best ones—exactly nine. Here’s a handy guide on what to toss into your beach bag. Let’s dive in!

1. Lip Balm with SPF

Lips often get overlooked when it comes to sun protection, but they’re just as vulnerable to UV damage as the rest of your skin. Personally, I don’t want thin, dry, flaky, or sunburned lips, so I always pack an SPF lip balm in my beach bag. It’s an invisible, non-sticky gloss that gives your lips shine and sun protection in one swipe. Pick one that won’t dry out your lips or leave them looking ghostly pale.

2. Sunscreen Stick

A sunscreen stick is a perfect on-the-go solution, especially when your hands are sandy and you don’t want to smear freshly applied lotion. A good formula glides smoothly and evenly, delivering just the right amount of protection.

3. Sunscreen Spray

I like keeping a spray sunscreen handy because its nozzle makes reapplying a breeze. Choose a waterproof formula—it won’t slide off or smudge the moment you hit the water. Many come in delightful scents, adding a fun vibe to your long, relaxing beach day. Fruity, fresh fragrances set the perfect mood.

4. Sun Protection for Hair and Scalp

Here’s a less cheerful fact: the scalp is one of the most neglected areas for sun protection, but ignoring it can lead to dryness, flaking, sunburn, and even skin cancer. I always bring a hat to the beach, but I like doubling down on protection.

5. Hair Care Products for Sun Exposure

Sunlight can dry out hair, cause breakage, and fade color, so I like to protect it. Hair care products designed for sun exposure with UV protection create a shield on each strand, guarding against sun damage and other environmental stressors. They also make hair easier to comb, boost shine, and strengthen it.

6. Cooling Facial Mist

This is one of my favorite beach hacks. Spritzing a cooling mist on your skin now and then keeps you feeling fresh and comfortable even in scorching heat. My go-to product contains hyaluronic acid plus green, white, and red tea extracts that hydrate and calm redness.

7. Travel-Size Body Mist

Here’s another handy tip: keep a travel-size body mist in your bag to stay fresh after the beach. I often head straight to dinner or drinks from the shore, and I don’t want to carry the scent of sweat, salt, and sunscreen. Instead, I opt for an elegant, refined fragrance, and a lovely body mist helps me do just that.

8. Straw Hat

There’s no way I leave home without my classic straw hat when heading to the beach. It’s both stylish and practical, shading my face and scalp for extra sun protection. I love how a well-chosen hat instantly adds a chic, vacation vibe to any beach outfit while genuinely making a difference when you’re in the sun all day.

9. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must in my beach bag. They protect my eyes from UV rays and save me from squinting and future crow’s feet. Of course, I don’t wear them for carefree beach volleyball (that would be too stylish), but when I’m lounging on a sunbed or strolling the shore in style.
