Color vision issues have different stages, and more severe cases can affect daily life. Mild color vision deficiency means all three cone pigments are present, but one is “faulty.” If the problem affects green perception, it’s called green color confusion; if red, red color confusion—both forms of color weakness. Moderate deficiency means one cone pigment is completely missing, so you can’t see green, red, or blue at all. Severe deficiency means two pigments are missing, usually leaving only blue perception. The rarest and most severe form is when only shades of gray are visible. Fortunately, this is very uncommon.
