Going through menopause isn’t easy, but it’s comforting to know things can get easier afterward.
Constant
When I was menstruating, I always cried before my period because of PMS (premenstrual syndrome). Every single time. Now, after menopause, I feel much more balanced—I can’t even remember the last time I cried, and I’m not on hormones. I’m one of the lucky few who found relief from mood swings through menopause.
Perspectives
Let’s be honest, menopause can be tough, but like any challenge, it has its bright side. Before, I used to binge on chocolate before my period—sometimes for 2-3 days straight! Since menopause, those intense sugar cravings have vanished, and I’ve even lost a bit of weight.
A Matter of Perspective
My hair is thinning and my skin feels like parchment, but the huge upside is saying goodbye to brutal menstrual cramps. When I weigh it all, I feel better now because during my periods, I had four hellish days each month when I couldn’t do anything but suffer.
For Now
I can’t fully speak yet because even though I’m almost 50 and have been going through menopause for a year and a half, I’m still menstruating. Yes, that happens. Last summer, I was struggling with 104°F (40°C) heat waves by Lake Balaton but couldn’t jump in the water because I was on my period. Meanwhile, my husband and sons were playing in the lake. I love being a woman, but I did feel a little sorry for myself then.
Earlier
I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 40 and had my uterus removed at 44. Three doctors were involved in my surgery. They had to cut me open because the endo affected all my internal organs, and the surgeon said my organs felt like concrete. Since then, everything’s much better—no heavy bleeding or unbearable cramps. I only wish they’d diagnosed me sooner because I suffered a lot between ages 12 and 44.
Hallelujah!
During my periods, I had migraines so bad I’d vomit for two days straight every month. So yes, I’m much happier that’s behind me.
Mixed Feelings
I traded painful cramps for brain fog, so I feel like I lost something but gained something else. Still, I feel better now—probably because I’m older and care less about what others think.
No
Since I never had painful periods, I only felt a bit down a few days before my cycle, then I was full of energy for 12 days. Since entering menopause, I’ve been constantly drained with no energy.
Science
If you’re struggling with menopause, I recommend finding a good doctor to help balance your hormones. I can only recommend hormone therapy for menopause—it worked wonders for me. All my symptoms eased (sleep problems, hot flashes, vaginal dryness), but the biggest change was my mood. My overall mental well-being is better than ever.
Looking Back
I haven’t menstruated for 20 years, and I can honestly say these have been the calmest years of my life. No mood swings like when I was younger. (And I actually loved that mid-cycle boost in libido.) It’s incredible how much fluctuating hormones affect women’s moods… I wouldn’t trade this peace of mind for anything.
