I was 19, spending summer in the countryside at my grandparents’. I had a fresh driver’s license, and one evening my cousin and I borrowed my grandpa’s car to practice on a quiet dirt road with no traffic. We drove out to the fields, testing the car a bit. Suddenly, we heard three loud knocks from under the car. I slammed on the brakes, we stopped, and got out to check what caused the noise. We found nothing—no issues under the hood or beneath the car. When I stepped back to inspect the ground—wondering if we’d hit something—my foot slipped, and I saw a huge hole the previous day’s rain had carved into the soil. If I hadn’t stopped because of the knocking, we would have slid right into it and the car would have been swallowed whole. I’m convinced someone was warning us.

After a tiring day, I was deep asleep at home and dreaming of my mom, who had passed away years earlier. I was happy to talk to her, even if only in my dream. Suddenly, she grabbed my shoulder, looked me in the eyes, and said, “Jump out of your bed, NOW!” I woke up instantly and even rolled off the bed. The moment I hit the floor, I heard a huge crash. It turned out the bookshelf full of books above me had fallen exactly where my head had been seconds before. My mom is still watching over me, even from beyond.

My friend got married in the US and wanted to move into a new house. One day, her husband was busy, so since I was visiting, I went with her to see a house built in the 1950s. The realtor wasn’t there but left the back door open for us. From the moment we stepped inside, I felt a suffocating vibe that got worse as we went upstairs. It felt like someone was watching us and really didn’t want us there. I couldn’t take it anymore—I was nearly choking—so I grabbed my friend’s hand without even looking at her, and we hurried down the stairs, through the kitchen, and out the door straight to the car. When I finally looked at her, she was pale as a ghost. She had felt that threatening, dark presence too. Needless to say, they didn’t buy the house.

I was driving home from the night shift. I knew the route well—I’d taken it hundreds of times—and with no traffic at dawn, I was going faster than allowed, like I usually did. Suddenly, a clear voice echoed in my mind. It was a deep male voice, strictly saying: “Change lanes!” I obeyed immediately, and right after, I passed a stationary car stuck in the inner lane. If I hadn’t moved over, I would have hit it at 80 mph (130 km/h), and I probably wouldn’t have survived. I haven’t heard that inner voice since, but I’ll always listen for it.

As a kid, my family went sledding in the mountains. Everyone stayed at the bottom, but I wanted to be the bravest, so I climbed high up and started down from there. I kept speeding up and saw the metal railing dangerously close at the bottom. I didn’t know what to do—I just closed my eyes—and suddenly felt an invisible force push me forward. Lying flat on the sled, I slid under the railing. If I’d stayed seated, I would have smashed my face. My parents were terrified but praised me for ducking skillfully. I never told them it wasn’t me—it was an invisible force.
