My Early-Year Trick for a More Relaxed Summer Vacation — Leisure
In this article

A few years back, I noticed that planning our vacations always brought a little stress for me, mostly due to finding the right place to stay. When it was time to decide where to go, we often left booking accommodation until the last minute or at best a few weeks before departure.

That often meant we had to choose from less appealing options or pay more for our favorite spots. Several times, this led to longer drives, which, while not always a big deal, can really add up when you end up feeling more tired during your vacation.

An Austrian Adventure That Gave Me New Energy

I remember the last time this happened was last year, when on a whim, we spent a few days in Austria exploring the outdoors. The trip was wonderful, the accommodations beautiful, and the experiences truly unforgettable.

Still, I kept thinking: if we had booked earlier, we probably could have traveled more comfortably, spent less, and enjoyed shorter journeys to those magical places.

This experience reminded me that a vacation isn’t just about the destination—it’s also about how you get there.

How to Start a Less Stressful Summer

This year, I decided to do things differently. Just like before, I started brainstorming where to go and browsing accommodations in the first days of January. By mid-January, all the plans were set: the places we’d love to stay and prices that fit our budget.

I already feel that calm I used to only experience after the vacation: no rushing, no compromises, and a much wider selection—even within the same accommodation.

Why Planning Ahead Pays Off

Early-year planning does more than save money. Booking early means you’re more likely to find accommodations that are truly comfortable and inspiring, without having to settle for less.

This matters even more if you pick a popular destination where the best places fill up fast, or if you’re driving and parking can be tricky. A well-chosen accommodation makes arrival smoother—no endless searching—making those first vacation moments way more enjoyable.

The Benefits Go Beyond Money

Booking early doesn’t just save money—it saves energy. When your accommodation and plans are set, all that’s left is curiosity and enjoyment. No rushing, no compromises, no "expensive last-minute" stress. And best of all: those few days are truly about relaxing, not worrying.

Inspiration for a Calm Summer

My simple trick is to start dreaming about this year’s trip in the first weeks of January, browsing options, taking notes, and booking the most appealing accommodations as soon as possible, considering every detail.

This way, summer feels calmer in advance, and I’m better prepared to enjoy the experiences. One of the best feelings for me is starting to plan a trip early in the year and soon seeing every little detail fall into place.

This year, I can’t wait to discover new places with more ease, comfort, and maybe even a bit more savings. Because a vacation should be about joyful moments—not rushing or stress—and early planning makes that so much easier.
