Luckily, summer camps now offer a vibrant mix of programs. If you’re unsure how to keep your child engaged during the break, here are some themed camps where they’ll not only have fun but also grow. Adventure, creativity, movement, making friends, new experiences—a little bit of everything to make sure those screen-filled days are a thing of the past!
Since my little girl isn’t so little anymore, the classic summer question comes up often: where can I take her so she has a blast, stays busy all day, and comes home full of fresh memories? For our young school-age kiddo, overnight camps are off the table. We go for full-day camps where we drop her off in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon.
Let’s be real: as working parents, taking two and a half months off is impossible. And being with the kids every single minute from dawn to dusk isn’t realistic either. We’ll have family weeks, local and international trips, and grandparent help, but there will still be days when the schedule feels empty.
Since the goal is for kids to not just be somewhere but truly enjoy themselves, we’re choosing themed summer camps again this year. Places where they learn through play, make new friends, move freely, express themselves, and have a fantastic time.
If you’re in the same boat, here are some ideas. These camps are great choices if you want your child’s summer to be meaningful and joyful.

Creative and Craft Camps
If your daughter loves stringing beads, tie-dyeing, or casting and painting plaster shapes, or your son is into mini repair projects, clay modeling, and pottery, a craft camp is a fantastic pick. Your little one will get to unleash their creative spirit.
And if you’ve got a budding artist who draws beautifully, art camps are the way to go. They’ll explore new materials beyond tempera, markers, pencils, and paint. These camps truly encourage creative self-expression.
Artistic and Drama Camps
If your child is a wordsmith who always finds the right thing to say, consider a drama camp. Through role-playing and theater experiences, these camps boost confidence, self-expression, imagination, communication, and improvisation skills. Older kids can also enjoy creative writing and storytelling activities. This works best if your child can already read and write.
Logic and Thinking Skills Camps
Got a little programming whiz on your hands? Does your kid love tinkering, building, thinking, playing Lego, or chess? Enroll them in a day camp focused on logic challenges. These camps develop strategic thinking and planning skills while strengthening patience, precision, rule-following, and problem-solving. Expect brain teasers, code-breaking, and puzzles—fun challenges that keep minds sharp.
Nature and Eco Camps
If your child loves nature, bugs, tiny creatures, flowers, and plants, eco camps are the perfect fit. Here, they dive deep into nature’s wonders and learn the science of caring for plants.
These camps usually include animals, so your child can enjoy birdwatching, petting, and caring for animals, learning about responsible pet ownership. Whether it’s a horse camp, small petting zoo, or mini farm, your kid will come home with wonderful memories.
Active and Recreational Camps
Is your little one always on the move, unable to sit still for even two minutes? If they’d run and play all day if they could, a themed sports camp is a great choice. Into dance? Try hip-hop, folk dance, or ballet camps to boost coordination. If they’re a soccer fan, a soccer camp is the way to go.
For older kids who can swim confidently, a swim camp can help sharpen their skills. There are also general day camps focused on full-body movement, sparking a love for sports. The key is playful exercise, fresh air, emotional balance, and active fun.
Language Camps
You can really boost your child’s language skills by signing them up for a language camp packed with diverse activities. These camps don’t just teach new words and phrases—they immerse kids in the culture of the language and country.
Many camps offer “guided tours” where kids visit landmarks and learn about them in a foreign language through fun storytelling. Plus, expect foreign-language songs, movement and dance games, and lots of laughter for kids of all ages.
