Slow-motion runs on the sand, thrilling rescues, sun-kissed bodies, and the iconic red swimsuit — if these bring back memories of one of the '90s biggest TV hits, we’ve got great news: Baywatch is coming back!

Fox has officially confirmed that a reimagined version of the legendary series is in development and will finally hit screens in 2026. But what will Baywatch look like in the 21st century, and who will follow in the footsteps of Pamela Anderson or David Hasselhoff? Here’s what we know so far.

Riding the Wave of Nostalgia — Why Now?

Baywatch said goodbye to viewers nearly 25 years ago, but its impact still ripples through pop culture. Running for 11 seasons on NBC, it wasn’t just the beach adventures that made it a global hit — it launched stars like David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson and introduced a whole generation to the “California dream” vibe.

Now, Fox and Fremantle (the original series’ rights holder) are bringing the show back with a full season of 12 episodes. The premiere is planned for the 2026–2027 TV season, so the wait won’t be too long.

Fresh Stories, Familiar Vibes

The creators aren’t just aiming for a nostalgic throwback: Baywatch 2.0 will bring fresh stories, new characters, and modern themes to captivate viewers. Matt Nix, creator of Burn Notice, is leading as showrunner and already impressed Fox with his pilot script.

The new series will still be set on the beaches of Los Angeles, though filming locations aren’t finalized — Australia is also on the table, thanks to attractive tax incentives and stunning coastlines.

The heart of the show remains the lifeguards’ lives: adrenaline-packed rescues, emotional conflicts, romance, and community dynamics — all woven into today’s real-world challenges. Producers promise the series will also explore social issues, identity, and mental health.

Who Might Return?

While the spotlight will be on new faces, some familiar ones might pop up. Carmen Electra, who played Lani McKenzie in the original, shared in an interview that she’s open to returning — though more as a “shore-based” role than an active lifeguard.

Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff haven’t been confirmed yet, but many fans would love to see them in cameo roles — maybe as mentors or nostalgic throwbacks.

New Faces, New Energy — Who Could Be the Next Stars?

Casting details are still under wraps, but the goal is to spotlight fresh, rising talent — just like in the ’90s. Baywatch has always been known for launching careers, so the next “Pamela Anderson” or “Zac Efron” might be debuting right now.

A Global Phenomenon Reborn

Fox’s head Michael Thorn said about the announcement: “Baywatch’s original run defined an era and made lifeguards iconic. Now, alongside Fremantle and Matt Nix, we’re bringing the California dream to a whole new generation — with fresh stories, new stars, and the stunning visuals that made Baywatch famous worldwide.”

Baywatch is more than a show — it’s a lifestyle. The big question is whether the reboot can keep the old charm while bringing new values to the screen.

New Generation, New Swimsuit, Same Love

The Baywatch reboot promises to be more than just a retro nostalgia trip — it’s a message about what heroism, unity, and the California dream look like in 2026.

If it succeeds, it could open a new chapter for beach dramas. If not, at least it’ll remind us how magical it was to watch those red-suited heroes sprint across the sand, buoy in hand — like their lives depended on it.

Will you be tuning in to the new Baywatch?
