Coming home always feels great, but during the holidays, when lights, ornaments, and my favorite colors greet me, it feels even better to step into our cozy apartment. This year, I looked for decorations that bring a festive vibe to the entryway and can be made in just a few hours. That way, anyone visiting during the holidays will step into a fairytale the moment they cross the threshold.
Festive Lights
Stringing tiny fairy lights along the ceiling creates a magical atmosphere and can stay on all day and night. As natural light changes, so does the cozy glow of these star-like lights. Add some greenery alongside for an extra festive touch.
Garland Above the Door
Entryways usually have several doors, all perfect spots to decorate. Use evergreen branches or garlands, and weave in a few Christmas ornaments for a charming look.
Beyond the Frame
If you have pictures on your entryway walls, easily adapt them for the holiday season by hanging wreaths on ribbons in front. This adds a fun, 3D effect without taking down your frames. After the holidays, just remove the wreaths and your usual photos will be right there.
Use What You Have!
You don’t have to spend extra to decorate your entryway—with a little creativity, you can repurpose items tucked away in your closet. A colorful umbrella and a few leftover or slightly damaged ornaments can come together to create something special for your hallway.
Focus on the Stairs
If your entryway leads to stairs, don’t skip decorating them for Christmas! Garlands on the railing, fairy lights, bows, or hanging ornaments all make a stunning statement here.
Stick to Your Main Colors!
To create a cohesive look, pick two main colors—like gold and green—and carry them throughout your decorations. Starting in the entryway sets the tone instantly, and using a consistent palette makes your decor look more polished with fewer pieces.
Indoor Snowfall
Depending on how intricate you want your paper snowflakes, this can be a fun Sunday project or a quick half-hour craft. Use different papers and shades of white to make the display more dynamic.
Gift Boxes on the Wall
With small boxes, jars, containers, and some leftover wrapping paper, you can create this DIY wall decoration that adds a warm, heartfelt touch to your entryway.
Stocking Tree
Though Christmas stockings are more of a North American tradition, this colorful, charming stocking tree works beautifully here too. With a bit of planning, it can even double as an advent calendar.
Magical Ice World
Icicle-inspired lights look especially stunning in the entryway. Coming inside from the cold, they create the feeling that the best parts of winter have followed you indoors. Use them boldly on stair railings, mirror frames, or around doors.
