Golden Milk
Ingredients: 200 ml plant-based milk, 1 teaspoon turmeric, a pinch of cayenne pepper, a tiny bit of grated ginger, ground cinnamon, and cardamom
How to make it: Combine all ingredients in a pan and bring to a gentle boil. Once bubbling, remove from heat and enjoy. You can sweeten it to taste, but most plant milks have a naturally mild sweetness.
Spiced Ginger Tea
Ingredients: thumb-sized piece of peeled ginger, 300 ml water, freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice, 3 cloves
How to make it: Grate the ginger into the water, add the cloves, and bring to a boil. Let it steep covered for a bit, then strain. When lukewarm, stir in fresh orange and lemon juice. Sweeten if you like, but the orange’s natural sweetness is usually enough.
Thyme
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons thyme (or 2 fresh sprigs), 200 ml water
How to make it: Boil the water thoroughly, then pour over the thyme. Let it steep covered! Sweeten or add ginger, cinnamon, cloves, or lemon juice to suit your taste.
Hot Chai Tea
Ingredients: 1 tablespoon black tea (or 2 tea bags), 300 ml water, 100 ml milk or plant milk, spices to taste from: star anise, cinnamon, ginger, green cardamom, fennel, whole pepper, or 1 teaspoon ground chai spice mix
How to make it: Boil the water, then pour over the spices and tea. Let steep for a few minutes, strain, and gently mix with warmed milk—frothing it is a nice touch. Sweeten if you like.
