"It Felt Good to Be Wanted": Real Tinder Stories People Never Talk About — Relationship
In this article

Everyone has a Tinder story. Most people just never tell it.

Behind the endless swiping there are real moments — nights that turned into weeks of messaging, matches that vanished without a word, and a few that ended in something no one saw coming. We spoke to three people who finally decided to share what really happened. The names have been changed.

If you've spent any part of the last several years single, chances are the app has lived on your phone at some point. And let's be honest: plenty of people who sign up are looking for something physical first, and everything else second.

That flips the usual order of getting to know someone. On this platform, your favorite position in bed often comes up long before your job, your hobbies, or what actually makes you tick.

But as Ivett told us, the app is also full of all talk and no action. Some guys launch into steamy chats after just a few messages. What follows can be weeks of electric back-and-forth — until the idea of an actual meeting scares them off, and they disappear. If you've never experienced ghosting before, Tinder will happily introduce you to it.

Vanished into thin air

"There was this guy who somehow knew exactly what I was looking for in a man. His profile photo, the way he talked, his questions, his reactions — everything. When you're in a fragile place, it's dangerously easy to believe you've found the one right here, and wonder where he's been hiding all this time.

We chatted for days, deep into the night, after my kids had gone to sleep. The raciest erotic novels weren't as bold as we were, across hundreds of messages and photos. One day I asked him to meet somewhere.

It felt a little strange to be the one making the first move as a woman, but I wanted so badly to meet him in person and feel those feelings in the real world.

On the day we'd agreed on, he canceled with a lame excuse and never answered another message. I started blaming myself, but then I read up on it and realized this is completely normal on Tinder," Ivett told us.

If Ivett's story sounds familiar, you're far from alone — and there are ways to protect yourself while dating online without shutting down your heart entirely.

The Tinder wedding

Bianka and Roland got married just a few months ago. They never made a big deal of the fact that they met on a dating app five years earlier — but if someone asks, they don't hide it. If anything, they feel lucky.

I think the secret was that neither of us wanted anything serious. We just wanted to have fun.

"There was no pressure, no need to impress anyone. Nothing mattered except enjoying each other's company on every hot night. And then one day we noticed neither of us was using the app anymore, we weren't looking for anyone else, and we were spending more and more time together outside the bedroom too," Roland recalls.

Since then, he proudly tells anyone who'll listen that after so many bad experiences, love can find you exactly where you least expect it.

Being happy is not a sin

Angéla signed up for Tinder the day her husband announced he wanted a divorce — for a woman he'd met on the very same app, who was now expecting his child.

"To be honest, aside from the initial heartbreak, I wasn't devastated or bitter. I felt like I shouldn't be crying in a corner — that's not what my kids needed to see either. So I thought, let me take a look at this app that ruined my marriage, because that's still how I saw it back then.

I started to like what I found, but I was raised religious, so it was a real moral dilemma for me: should I start meeting other men while I was technically still a married woman?"

In the end, I realized that being happy and searching for happiness is not a sin.

"I made it clear right on my profile that no one should expect a one-night stand with me, which filtered out the people who were only there for that. I didn't fall in love again, but I got through the divorce, I received a lot of positive reinforcement, and it felt good to be wanted by men. I wouldn't do anything differently today."

Frequently asked questions

Why do people ghost on dating apps?

As Ivett's story shows, some people are far more comfortable with intense messaging than with an actual meeting. When the possibility of meeting in person becomes real, they can panic and simply disappear.

Can you really find a serious relationship on Tinder?

Yes. Bianka and Roland met on the app five years ago and recently got married, even though neither of them was looking for anything serious at the start.

Is it okay to use a dating app after a divorce?

For Angéla it became a way to rebuild her confidence. She didn't fall in love again, but she got through the divorce feeling stronger and reassured that searching for happiness is nothing to be ashamed of.

How can you avoid people who only want a one-night stand?

Angéla found that stating clearly on her profile what she was and wasn't looking for helped filter out people who were only there for casual encounters.
