There’s something truly special about opening a paper book. Its scent, its feel, its weight. Maybe it’s nostalgia — childhood storytimes, long summer breaks when it was just me and the book, discovering new worlds. Back then, I didn’t know this would become my go-to escape.
Books have always been with me, but in recent years they’ve taken on an even bigger role. Maybe because the world around me feels louder, faster, and more unpredictable. When the noise of news, daily tasks, and social media gets overwhelming, I instinctively reach for a book.
Thrillers, Romance & the Taste of Truth
I’ve always loved diving into all kinds of stories. I enjoy the thrill of mysteries, solving puzzles alongside the main character, with each chapter revealing a new piece.
Romantic novels make my heart race — not just for their happy endings, but because they remind me that feelings don’t disappear, they’re just sometimes drowned out by life’s rush.
And then there are books based on true stories — often the most moving. They pull me out of my daily routine while showing me a different side of reality. Sometimes they inspire, sometimes they comfort, but they always give me something: a fresh perspective, a forgotten feeling, or a question I hadn’t asked myself in a while.
Sometimes Reading Feels Like Taking a Breath
Some days, I just feel overwhelmed. Thoughts, expectations, unanswered emails, “just one more quick thing” lists. Silencing my phone doesn’t always help, and sometimes even a walk isn’t enough — that’s when a good book almost always saves me.
For me, books aren’t just entertainment — they’re a refuge. Another universe where I don’t have to prove anything, where I don’t have to be strong all the time, where it’s okay to simply be present. When I read, time slows down. I regain control, even if just for a little while.
Paper vs. Screen: No Contest on the Winner
While I’m part of the crowd that relies on modern tech for work and don’t mind e-books, my heart always leans toward paper. The weight of a real book in my hand, the sound of turning pages, pausing and flipping back — it’s all part of the experience. Somehow, I feel what I read this way sticks deeper.
This kind of reading is a ritual. A conscious choice to pause multitasking, silence endless notifications, and just be with the story.
Why Is It More Important Now Than Ever?
The past few years have brought global challenges, and I’m sure many of us have faced trials on our own paths. That’s why I believe it’s no coincidence more people are seeking escape routes in novels.
Because these stories help us believe there’s a way out. That good people exist. That truth can win, love isn’t a cliché, and strength can come from loss. A great book doesn’t just entertain — it heals, shapes, and puts us back together when we feel broken.
Escape or Return?
It might sound strange, but when I "escape" into a novel, I don’t feel weak. It’s more like I’m finding my way back to myself. Novels don’t just take me somewhere else — they bring me back. I’m not hiding from reality; on the contrary, books give me the strength to face it.
