The First Trailer for Hungary's Biggest Romance Sequel Is Here — and Fans Have a Lot of Questions — News
In this article

The first film became one of the most beloved Hungarian movies in decades — and now the wait for its sequel is nearly over. The debut trailer for How Could I Live Without You? 2 has finally arrived, and it's already got fans buzzing about what happens next to their favorite characters.

The original film became the most successful Hungarian movie of the post-communist era. Built around the legendary songs of Ferenc Demjén, packed with romance and warm humor, it struck a chord that reached across multiple generations at once.

As the story opens, we meet Lili, who — thanks to her curious younger sister and a long-hidden bundle of letters — gets a glimpse into the past of her mother, Eszter. What she uncovers is a love story that would go on to shape her entire family's life.

Our favorite characters are back — and another emotional rollercoaster awaits

The sequel reunites us with many of the story's most popular faces. Returning to the screen are Gergő (Márk Ember), Eszter (Franciska Törőcsik), Gábor (Péter Marics), Csabi (Marcell Kirády), Kata (Luca Márkus) and Betti (Harmat Kovács).

This time the story picks up six years after the events of the first film. According to the filmmakers, the old circle of friends is once again facing big life moments, difficult decisions and unresolved emotions — with Lake Balaton returning as a central backdrop.

At its heart, the sequel is once again about love, friendship, the loose ends of the past and the bonds that hold people together.

New faces are joining the story too

The second installment expands the cast with fresh characters. Alongside the confirmed returning leads, we'll meet several new faces — including actors who could bring an entirely new energy to a story we already know and love.

The filmmakers are keeping many details under wraps for now, but one thing is certain: beloved actress and TV host Claudia Liptai is joining the story. A key thread of the film is Betti's wedding, and Liptai will play her mother — a mother of the bride who may just be a little too sure of exactly how everything should go.

It's also been revealed that a little boy (played by Bálint Jeles) will appear in the story, and his arrival will shake up the relationship of one of the couples.

The biggest question: can Eszter and Gergő find their way back to each other?

The strongest emotional thread of the first film was, without question, the relationship between Eszter and Gergő. The two young people fell into a rare and powerful kind of love — until their paths were pulled apart, first by Eszter's father falling ill and then by his scheming. Eszter turned out to be pregnant with Lili, while Gergő, it seems, never knew they had a child together.

Which is exactly why so many fans are asking the same thing: how could we possibly see the two of them share scenes again in the sequel?

It's possible the film will use flashbacks to reveal new moments from the past — or peel back parts of Eszter and Gergő's story that we've never seen before. If you loved their storyline, you'll want to keep an eye on everything the original film set up.

The Kuplung band is back too — with a special concert experience

One of the most beloved elements of the How Could I Live Without You? world is the Kuplung band, whose songs and performances were a huge part of the film's atmosphere.

If they won you over the first time around, here's the good news: you'll soon get to see them live. Two concerts are planned at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna — one on November 6 (already sold out) and another on November 7 (tickets still available).

The plan is for the concerts to feature the iconic songs from the first film, along with brand-new tracks from the sequel. And if you arrive early enough, you'll even be able to watch the movie itself before the show.

When does How Could I Live Without You? 2 come out?

The sequel hits Hungarian cinemas on November 12, 2026. The film is directed by Zsombor Dyga and produced by Attila Kirády, made with the involvement of IKO and distributed by InterCom.

How Could I Live Without You? 2 promises to be more than just another romance. It's shaping up to be an emotionally charged sequel that carries us back into a familiar world — while asking a whole new set of questions.

Are you already counting down to the sequel?
