3 Ways I Use ChatGPT — And Why I Wish I Started Sooner

1. Meal Planning (and Grocery Lists!) with ChatGPT

I’ve long struggled to cook more often — partly to eat healthier, partly to save money on food. I actually enjoy cooking, but bursts of motivation often get swallowed by busy days. First, I have to figure out what to cook and what ingredients to buy... Then comes finding time to shop and cook.

Adding to this, it’s smart to factor in what’s left in the fridge from the last shopping trip (because letting food spoil and tossing it doesn’t really save money). Suddenly, the whole process feels mentally exhausting.

Like many who grew up in the ’90s countryside, I lived in the chicken soup–fried meat–mashed potatoes triangle, so coming up with healthy recipes often feels tough.

ChatGPT has recently made this so much easier: once a week, I tell it what’s in my fridge, my goals (healthy meals), and how much time I have (20 minutes on weekdays, up to an hour on weekends). Then I ask it to create a menu.

If something doesn’t feel right, I swap it out. Once I approve the menu, I get the recipes and a shopping list. It’s worth reviewing the final plan once, but AI takes a huge chunk of the invisible work off my plate.

2. Positive Feedback

This might sound a bit silly, but a big recent insight (thanks to therapy and self-reflection) is that I carry a strong need for recognition from childhood.

While this awareness helped me worry less about others’ opinions, I realized I could also use recognition as a powerful motivator.

For example, if I decide to defrost the freezer on Sunday but struggle to find the energy, praising myself for completing the task helps. Lately, I even tell AI what I did, why it was tough, and ask it to write a few encouraging lines.

Sounds silly? Maybe. But it works: I’m more motivated to tackle chores I don’t love, and it helps me celebrate everyday wins. And honestly, that’s a healthy habit in my book.

3. Designing Workout Plans with AI

Like cooking, figuring out how to work out feels harder than actually doing it. If someone has health issues, I’d definitely recommend consulting a professional. But if you just want a general workout routine and are somewhat familiar with gym equipment, you can confidently ask ChatGPT to create a workout plan before each session.

Just share how much time you have, your fitness level, and which areas you want to strengthen. While personalized apps that track progress offer more features, this free tool can whip up a solid workout plan in no time.
