If you’ve only heard about it but aren’t sure how it works: induction doesn’t heat the cooktop itself, it heats the cookware directly using an electromagnetic field. This isn’t just energy-efficient—it’s also a much safer way to cook.
“With induction, the cookware heats up directly from the electromagnetic field,” explains Dirk Sappok, Miele’s kitchen appliances director. “Gas and electric cooktops heat indirectly through the cooktop surface.”
And that’s just the beginning! Induction cooking is not only faster but also more precise—perfect for melting chocolate or frying doughnuts in a pan.
“Induction cooking saves time, offers precision, and heats quickly. Even boiling water is much faster than on other cooktops,” adds Sappok.
Plus, the cooktop itself doesn’t get hot—so accidental touches won’t cause burns. “Induction cooktops are extremely safe because the technology heats the cookware directly, not the cooktop,” he says. And without open flames or glowing coils, your kitchen air stays fresher—especially a huge bonus in warm weather!

This cooktop is a bit picky—it only works with magnetic-bottomed pots and pans. “To check if your cookware is induction-compatible, just test it with a magnet—if it sticks, you’re good,” suggests Sappok. “Most quality cookware today is induction-ready, but it’s always smart to double-check.”

Step by Step:
- Turn off the cooktop and wait for it to cool.
- Wipe away crumbs and debris with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Apply a small amount of mild dish soap to a damp cloth and clean the surface in circular motions. Avoid abrasive sponges or scrubbers!

“If not cleaned regularly, grease and food residue can form a dull layer that reduces the cooktop’s efficiency,” warns Marla Mock, president of Molly Maid.

“This combo is a great alternative for removing tough stains without damaging the surface,” says Mock.
If there’s dried-on food left: “Use a microfiber cloth and, if needed, a silicone scraper—just be gentle!” she adds.
