Fall isn’t just about swapping iced coffee for a hot drink or putting away tank tops while reaching for cozy, warm coats more often. The crisp, cool air also calls for new scents. While classic autumn favorites like amber and leather remain staples, fall 2025 brings several unique, fresh fragrance trends to the forefront. We asked fragrance creators and experts about the season’s best perfume directions.
Salty Florals
Salty floral scents blend airy, ocean-inspired notes with lush blooms like tuberose, jasmine, and peony. “The salty note adds a crystal-clear freshness that balances the sweet floral tones, making the fragrance both airy and grounded,” explains Octavia Morgan, fragrance expert and founder of Octavia Morgan Los Angeles. “More people are drawn to skin-like, mineral scents that feel intimate, natural, and wearable year-round.”
This scent profile brings freshness with enough depth for autumn days. Try Octavia Morgan Marine Layer, combining lily and sea spray; Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk; or Osmo Generation Where Water Ends, which unites white flowers, wet stones, and wild herbs.

Leather
Leather is a beloved fall classic, and 2025 is no exception. “Interest is growing in rich leather scents inspired by the Wild West and American vibes—dusty plains, luxury leather, whiskey, and tobacco,” says Bettina O’Neill, fragrance expert and vice president of Scentbird. “These fragrances evoke adventure and nostalgic landscapes.” Her favorites include House of Bō Espíritu Parfum, with a clean, aromatic, and refined leather base perfect for layering.
Tory Burch Sublime EDP offers a more feminine take, featuring mandarin and peach top notes, rose heart notes, leather accords, and patchouli.

Fresh Fruits
Alongside citrus, this fall highlights rich, darker fruits like plum, black cherry, and fig, often paired with woody notes such as sandalwood, cedar, or patchouli. “Fruity tones add juicy depth, while woody notes bring warmth—a perfect combo for cooler weather,” says Morgan. “Dark fruits surprise with a gourmand feel without being overly sweet, and they’re sensual without feeling heavy.” Phlur Cherry Stem is a perfect example, blending black cherry, plum nectar, caramel, leather, and ebony wood. WeWoreWhat 001 Eau de Parfum offers a softer version with creamy fig, cardamom, patchouli, black tea, and pepper.

Fresh Citrus
Though fall scents tend to be warm and deep, a bright, fresh citrus note helps create balance. Grapefruit, lemon, and orange juicy accords now appear in “unexpected compositions where fresh, metallic brightness meets dark, woody depths,” says Christophe Laudamiel, lead perfumer at Generation by Osmo. A top pick this season is The Museum of Pop Culture Electric Harmony, where “lemon and linden blossom meet marine and metallic notes for a green, airy opening. Rum adds warmth, while patchouli and oud’s deep tones bring intensity and contrast.”

Amber
Amber is one of fall’s warmest, most popular scent categories and definitely worth revisiting this year. “Several amber perfumes ranked among the most sought-after last year, showing how beloved this comforting scent is,” says O’Neill. Favorites include Fugazzi Angel Dust, a soft, cashmere-like fragrance with amber bases, perfect for a chilly autumn day. Also notable is Aerin Amber Musk Vanille EDP, a new, softer take on the classic Amber Musk, blending amber, whipped vanilla, marshmallow, rose, and orange blossom.

Reimagined Gourmand Scents
Sweet gourmand perfumes are fall staples, but this year they return with a darker, gothic vibe. “Deep, mysterious vanilla scents are gaining popularity, where sweetness is balanced by amber, leather, or patchouli layers,” says O’Neill. Arabians Tonka perfectly embodies this evolution—rich, silky, and ideal for cooler days. Also worth trying is Tom Ford Vanille Fatale, which deepens vanilla with tobacco, deerskin, mahogany, and coriander.

Chocolate
Chocolate also belongs to the gourmand family but emerges as its own trend in fall 2025, gaining more attention. Once mainly a base note, it now steps forward to showcase its decadent, melting side. Kayali Oudgasm Chocolate Oud blends spicy rum, caramel apple, jasmine, and cinnamon, all dipped in dark cocoa. La Fede Brown Choco by Khadlaj is a true chocolate gourmand, uniting cocoa, chocolate, pistachio, and milk with the creamy depth of caramel.
