The Base Is a Baking Mold
Baking molds pop up in kitchens during the holidays—even in those where the oven rarely gets turned on. But don’t just think of them for classic baking.
Silicone or metal molds make perfect candle holders.
You can build them into your wreath or arrange them on a tray or board to create a unique advent centerpiece in no time.
Set Inside Jars
There are tons of great ideas online for using jars and preserves in Christmas decor. One of the best? Repurposing them as candle holders.
Fill the jars with festive fillers like cinnamon sticks, potpourri, or branches—anything you love and have on hand. Arrange them on a pretty tray, then place a candle in each jar’s opening.
Don’t forget to number the candles to keep that true advent spirit alive!
On an Existing Base
Advent wreath bases aren’t just round and they don’t have to be traditional. A few years ago, a friend’s dad crafted wrought iron bases for sale.
These practical pieces look stunning in minimalist homes and make advent prep a breeze. They’re beautiful on their own, and just adding a few simple decorations instantly sets the mood.
Of course, your base can be metal, wood, or anything else—but always keep fire safety in mind.
Simply Lined Up
For our first Christmas together, our little girl was just six months old, and I barely had time for crafts. But I didn’t want to skip the advent wreath that year, so I arranged four candles on a glass tray and quickly decorated around them.
I used sparkling ceramic snowflakes and potpourri—the result was cozy and festive without any glue guns or fancy supplies.
These unconventional wreaths are not only special but a lifesaver when time is tight.
A Classic with a Twist
If you love tradition but want to refresh it, try decorating the inside of your wreath instead of the surface. Grab a larger base and place a cut-to-size floral foam inside.
Then add your four candles and other decorations. You don’t have to stick to wreath bases—advent looks great arranged in smaller boxes or baskets, too.
On a Unique Base
You can make your advent wreath stand out just by switching up the usual base—some examples are already in our list. But there are plenty more ideas for creating your own unique wreath.
Try arranging small logs, wood blocks, or even cork stoppers side by side.
You can also craft a base from salt dough or gingerbread, or recycle old Christmas ornaments into a one-of-a-kind wreath.
